I’m aware that the 10 above or below rule still applies, but what confuses me most are nat 20s and nat 1s. Which just tells me that a crit isn’t better or worse than it would be by numbers alone, because numbers alone still determine whether a nat 20 or a nat 1 is a success or failure. Likewise, if your modifier for a statistic is so high that adding it to a 1 from your d20 roll exceeds the DC by 10 or more, you can succeed even if you roll a natural 1!
